Overview: Under direction of the Head Men's Basketball Coach, the incumbent will assist with coaching and developing a nationally competitive Division I Basketball team. Responsibilities of this position include:
Assist with the coaching of men's basketball student-athletes in practice and competition
Support the conditioning and training of student-athletes
Teach and develop sport specific skills and coaching strategies to enhance the athletic performance of student-athletes
Assist in the success of team performance and eligibility criteria
Recruit quality student-athletes within the guidelines of the Code of Recruitment if required by the head coach
Handle film exchange
Enforce written team rules and expectations including on and off campus conduct
Compliance with NCAA, Mountain West Conference, Athletic Department and University rules and policies
Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of academic progress and eligibility of team members, and in the coordination of team travel as needed
Prepare data and reports as necessary in support of NCAA, Mountain West Conference and University rules compliance
Encouraged to assist in the promotion of gate receipts and fund raising activities
Support the department's commitment to gender equity and diversity
Other related duties as assigned
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education or by an equivalent international institution of higher education
Experience coaching men's basketball
Have strong communication and motivation skills
Knowledge of NCAA rules and policies
Demonstrated knowledge of basketball skills, tactics and strategies
Coaching philosophy and teaching concepts must be compatible with those of the Head Coach
Ability to work cooperatively with coaches, staff, faculty, students, and members of the community
Commitment to academic integrity and compliance with University, conference and NCAA regulations
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and project a professional attitude
Ability and willingness to support the equity and diversity commitments of the department
A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations
Preferred Education, Experience and Knowledge:
Experience coaching basketball at the collegiate level
