The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applicants for a Full-Time Head Women’s Basketball Coach to assist in all aspects of the IUP Women’s Basketball program at the Division II level and to create a quality student-athlete experience in academics, athletics, and community service.

Description of Duties:

• Monitor and encourage academic progress and success of student-athletes to ensure continuing eligibility to participate in NCAA competition and to graduate. • Oversee game preparation (player conditioning, training, skill building, scouting other teams, and player development coaching). • Oversee player recruitment by maintaining contact with high school/club coaches to identify potential prospects, conducting campus visits, developing a recruiting schedule, and recommendations for scholarships. • Coordinate and participate in fund-raising activities in support of IUP's athletic program. • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Instructional Duties:

• Provide instruction to student athletes in position technique • Provide instruction to student athletes sport strategy. • Provide instruction to student athletes in game analysis. • Provide instruction to student athlete regarding specific game plans. • Provide instruction to student athletes regarding physical conditioning and strength training. • Provide instruction to student athlete regarding NCAA rules. • Provide instruction to student athletes regarding university and program policies and procedures. • Provide instruction to student athletes in leadership & conduct. • Provide instruction to student athletes in community responsibility. • Provide academic monitoring and counseling to student athletes. • Provide instruction to camp attendees.

Non-Instructional Duties:

• Monitor student athlete academic ineligibility. • Scouting competition. • Monitor compliance with IUP, PSAC, and NCAA rules and regulations. • Recruit student-athletes. • Participate in fundraising activities and other fiscal responsibilities. • Other specific duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: 

•    Bachelor's degree and two years of collegiate coaching experience, OR
•    One to three years of professional coaching or professional playing experience.

Campuses Located in the heart of Indiana, Pennsylvania, IUP’s main campus has grown from 12 acres and one building in 1875, to 354 acres and 65 major buildings. Enrollment and Students In fall 2020, there were 10,067 students: 7,759 undergraduates 2,035 graduate students 235 clock-hour students 61 percent female, 39 percent male 1,957 (20 percent) minority 397 (4 percent) international IUP students are bright, inquisitive, and accomplished IUP students have won 20 elite Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships. IUP students have won 12 prestigious Freeman-Asia study abroad awards. IUP has had the No. 1 ROTC cadet in the nation. Twelve IUP students have been named Barry M. Goldwater Scholars since 2003. Since 1996, 16 students have won Fulbright awards for international study. Faculty At IUP, students work closely with their professors to achieve their goals. Nearly all classes are taught by faculty members, as opposed to graduate assistants. Four faculty have been included in a list of the 300 highest rated by students in the US (Princeton Review.) Faculty have won more than 60 Fulbright scholarships, allowing them to study and research in more than a score of countries. Faculty research has been sponsored by institutions such as the National Science Foundation, NASA, the American Chemical Society, the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the US Department of Education. Degree Programs Not only does IUP offer an abundance of undergraduate and master’s programs, but it is the only university in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education to offer Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Degrees are offered from the broader, more traditional (philosophy, anthropology) to the career specific (safety sciences, respiratory therapy). Athletics IUP competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and is an NCAA Division II member. Seven varsity sports for men (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, swimming, and track and field) and 10 for women (basketball, cross country, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball).
