JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for providing coaching expertise, leadership, management and administration of all aspects o a competitive NCAA Division II program resulting in a positive and beneficial intercollegiate experience for student-athletes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of two years previous experience in competitive coaching and recruiting required, preferably in an intercollegiate program. Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree preferred Broad-based experience preferred Annual salary commensurate with experience, with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Provide leadership, organization and supervision for all practices and contests.
    Implement and maintain standards of performance consistent with departmental, academic, and athletic expectations.
  • Supervise and evaluate assistant coach(es), graduate assistants, interns and student workers.
  • Organize and implement a successful recruiting program to attract outstanding student-athletes to attend Northeastern State University.
  • Conduct all aspects of the program within the rules, regulations, and procedures of the NCAA, MIAA, the intercollegiate athletics department policy manual and the University.
  • Attend and participate in department and staff meetings and events.
  • Manage the program with the parameters of an approved budget.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Athletics on the hiring of assistant coaches and other support staff for the program.
  • Review all budget requests and projected fiscal needs.
  • Schedule all intercollegiate contests and team travel in accordance with MIAA Scheduling and NCAA Model.
  • Review student-athlete eligibility requirements to ensure full compliance with governing rules and regulations.
  • Provide financial aid recommendations for both prospective and enrolled student-athletes
  • Manage the facility repair and maintenance schedule and maintenance of equipment associated with the program, contest administration and game operations.
  • Maintain a positive and constructive working relationship with University and departmental support staff to ensure an efficient and effective program and department.
  • Develop and participate in fund-raising activities for the program in conjunction with athletic advancement through the All N Club.
  • Represent the University at professional meetings, alumni gatherings, campus activities and civic affairs.
  • Encourage and administer an effective outreach program with student-athletes that provide benefits to the on and off-campus community.
  • Maintain relationships with parents, alumni, friends of the program, and others toward the positive image and promotion of the program
  • Be knowledgeable of and fully comply with all appropriate rules and regulations of Northeastern State University, the MIAA Conference and the NCAA
  • Prepare, record and retain documentation as required
  • Adhere to the mission statement and guiding principles of the Department and promote commitment to the mission by all staff under your sport supervisor
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the direct sport report and the Director of Athletics

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Experience recruiting and retaining a diverse group of successful student-athletes
Competitive coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level
Strong commitment to student-athlete academic achievements and character development
Effective communication skills, verbal and written
Ability to work effectively and productively within a team-based approach
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a high demand/high stress profession
Ability to respond professionally and competently
Ability to contribute to a positive work environment

Ability to demonstrate leadership characteristics within athletics and throughout the university
Computer and social media technology competency
Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license.
Demonstrated knowledge of, and relevant ability with, culturally diverse communities among potential target and constituent populations.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over assistant coach, graduate assistant coaches and student interns or managers.

About Northeastern State University
Northeastern State University (NSU) is a public university with its main campus in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Northeastern is the oldest institution of higher learning in the state of Oklahoma as well as the state's 4th largest institution.
